Shreddit X is an eXperimental platform for Shreddit Bro, and is also a two-wheeled vertical beater bar 3lb robot from the New York City based team Shreddit.
|Body Material||UHMW frame and wheel guards, Al top and bottom plates, Ti forks.|
|Weapon||S7 Beater Bar|
|Weapon Drive||Brushless outrunner|
Shreddit X has made a debut at May 2021 NHRL event, with the intention of testing performance of several new components and judging their suitability for implementation in Shreddit Bro for future iterations.
The new weapon tested was a custom designed beater bar, which was manufactured out of S7 tool steel. The weapon showed excellent bite characteristics, and was able to pop up opponents even at slower approach speeds. The durability/longevity results were inconclusive as it became apparent that the beater bar was not hardened as ordered. The new weapon used bearing and pulley hubs machined in-house, and these performed well - however the typical Shreddit Bro dual side-by-side timing belt setup resulted in stalled weapon in multiple matches, this setup will be replaced in the next iteration.
Shreddit X drive maintained the Botkits 22mm planetary DC gearmotors, but used custom cut XLPE foam wheels and in-house machined wheel hubs. These silicone coated blue cross linked polyethylene foam wheels have been successfully used by 3lb Billy and have become popularly known as “Billy Wheels.” The wheels showed great performance in durability and traction, and the hubs held on well until one was undercut by Silent Spring and was knocked off the drive shaft. In future iterations the wheels will be maintained, but the hubs will be modified to have larger mating surfaces to the drive shafts, and larger setscrews.
Shreddit X frame is currently the typical slot-and-tab 3/8” thick UHMW panels, and 1/8” thick UHMW wheel guards. There are plans to replace some of these with 3D printed panels and mounts in future iterations.
The top and bottom panels are 1.5mm aluminum, like the bottom plates on Shreddit Bro - and they fared normally. This will likely not change in the near future.
Shreddit X used the typical 2 titanium forks, one on each side of the beater bar. The slight modification was that the weapon pulley side fork had a protrusion at the front to help guard the pulley/belts from glancing hits.
